Product Description:
BAMF stands for exactly what you think it does. Bikes are too personal to let some pretty Lexus induced paint job speak for who you are. If you ride a bike, really ride a bike, you know the cold burn on your face in the winter, the sound of hitting the ground and the tingle of a bloody knuckle. You don’t ride so you can put an ornament on your SUV or to get a frappuccino hoping to be seen…You hunt down those types on the trail and smirk as you rip past leaving them and their GPS wondering what happened?

All the BAMF bikes are black (like the guys at BAMF are going to fight over color pallets and shades of blue) and come with minimal decals and a killer 4 color (gold, white, purple and blue) sticker kit for you to create the look you want. Put the stickers on the bike, your car or your friend’s back. BAMF take bikes seriously…like tattoos. They don’t want you to show up and see the exact same machine on the trail. BAMF wants you to make it your own. Bikes are a permanent fixture in their life and they pour that passion into their work...or play depending on who you ask. From the name alone, BAMF Half Nelson, you get the idea they have strong hold on what makes a great bike.

The BAMF Half Nelson is an aluminum 26” MTB ready to get it done on the trail. From the no nonsense RST Capa suspension fork to the SRAM X.4 trigger shifters, X.4 rear derailleur and Bengal mechanical disc brakes this bike is ready to go. The Half Nelson starts with a light and responsive 6061 aluminum racing frame. The RST Capa suspension fork with 80mm of travel is a solid performer that keeps the front wheel tracking the ground. The SRAM X.4 Trigger shifters are paired with the SRAM X.4 rear derailleur and SRAM 3.0 front derailleur providing a precise shifting partnership. When the time comes to scrub a little big wheel speed the Bengal mechanical brakes will be at your middle finger (BAMF humor). The BAMF MTB saddle adds a nice touch of comfort even for the hardest of riders out there can appreciate.  The alloy Suntour crank with the 42/32/22 chainring combination will have those big wheels turning.

The BAMF Frame
The BAMF Half Nelson’s foundation is a lightweight 6061 aluminum creation with replaceable derailleur hanger, disc tabs and 1-1/8” integrated headset and water bottle mounts. The BAMF 26” MTB geometry is straight forward and solid. With four sizes to choose from BAMF has you covered. The 6061 aluminum is strong where it needs to be and light too while being dependable. The frame has a 27.2 seat post diameter and a 68mm English threaded bottom bracket. The head tube is designed to accept IS-2 standard threadless 1-1/8th bearings. This is the same frame found on the more expensive Full Nelson at a lower price. BAMF stands behind the aluminum frame with a lifetime limited warranty against manufacturing defects. If you take a jump off a loading dock…sorry, that’s on you.

The BAMF Fit
Sizing a BAMF MTB is no different, or more difficult, than any other style of bike. By reviewing the size chart you will see a measurement called the “Eff Top Tube”, also known as the Effective Top Tube Measurement. This is what the top tube would measure if it was parallel to the ground. It is an imaginary line the runs from the center of the head tube to the center of the seat tube, if the seat tube was extended like a traditional frame. The size chart also lists suggested heights for the different frame sizes. This is far more helpful in sizing a bike than standing over the top tube and pulling up on the handlebars (which tells you nothing about the fit of a bike). BAMF offers four sizes to accommodate riders large and small. It will be easy to find a fit for all of our customers. The +/- 7° stem can also be flipped and adjusted for a lower back-friendly position to a more streamline position in minutes. The lower top tube keeps the center of gravity low and the makes for an easy approach to getting on the bike. This BAMF bike was designed with the user’s needs and comfort as the #1 priority.

The BAMF Feel
The BAMF crew spent a lot of time getting this MTB right. After racing 24-hour events, Single Speed World Championships, downhill, cross country just about any other trail induced event the BAMF guys get mountain biking. Since its introduction two years ago, the all mountain Mission has become the hands-down favorite of some of the most discriminating riders in the world. SUSPENSION
At the heart of the all-mountain Mission is the Knuckle Box bell-crank. With its compact design and welded unibody construction, the Knuckle Box ties the rear suspension components together. It isolates, cradles, and guards the FOX air shock while providing a smooth near-linear suspension ratio through the entire six inches of travel. This low and tight design gives the Mission a lower center of gravity than most all-mountain designs on the market today, resulting in the most balanced and maneuverable bike Diamondback has ever produced. The Knuckle Box is truly the “heart” of the design.

If the Knuckle Box is the heart, then the Mission’s front triangle is the backbone. The low-slung Hooded Hydroformed top tube wraps and reinforces the head tube and provides more stand over clearance. An uninterrupted seat tube that eliminates the need to cut seat posts also makes the Mission’s front triangle strong, light and stiff.

The Mission’s rear end features chain stays joined with a unique one-piece forged yoke that is very stiff. The seat stay assembly is joined and reinforced with a unique inverted arch bridge and precision sealed cartridge bearings are used at all of the Mission’s pivots. The modern bicycle was invented in the mid-19th century so it is safe to say that Sir Isaac Newton never owned a mountain bike. However, had he owned a GT Sanction 2.0, he surely would have discovered classic physics much sooner than being hit in the head by a piece of fruit

We are big fans of the Kuota K-Factor. It looks amazing and the ride is inspiring. Born as a triathlon bike the folks at Kuota are now offering this frame as a road bike build. This is a great opportunity to get a road bike that can later be used for triathlon (the fastest growing cycling related sport). This is just the bike to get you going on the road and even into tri.

For starters, tri bikes have slightly steeper seat tubes to place the rider further over the cranks than a road bike. This allows the rider to use the larger quad muscles over the smaller calf muscles. Tri bikes also take advantage of aero-shaped tubing to slice through the air with less resistance. Now take those attributes and apply them to a road bike format. What you get is a comfortable quick bike that likes to shoot down the road.

Tri frames in general have slightly shorter top tubes to put the pilot in a comfortable position when using aerobars. The difference in most cases is 1-1.5cm.  A proper fit is easily obtained by refrencing the size chart and the usual minor tweaks of saddle position and/or stem. The generous head tube size of the K-Factor allows this bike to be utilized in many different formats. Start with the road build and add an aero bar clip-on and you are set to go! If you decide that triathlon is for you then you can replace the road handlebar with a full blown tri bar and go all out.

Without getting too technical, it is easier to transform a tri bike into a road bike than a road bike into a tri bike. One of the key factors is the placement of the wheel under the rider. On a road bike geometry the rear wheel may be too far back and will alter the ride quality when the rider’s weight is placed on an aerobar extension. With too much weight coming off of the rear wheel the bike handling will become unbalanced and suffer. On a tri- geometry the wheel is tucked under the rider (thus the wheel cutout on the seat tube) and handling is not affected as much by utilizing road or tri bars.

Paired up with the carbon frame is Shimano’s Ultegra SL and 105 components. Every year Ultegra inherits the best qualities of the Dura-Ace group but the price is almost half of its big brother. For years Ultegra has been providing solid performance and dependability at a price to performance ratio that can’t be beat. Kuota matched up the 10 speed Shimano Ultegra SL shifters with the amazingly reliable Ultegra SL rear derailleur, Shimano 105 front derailleur and Shimano 10 speed cassette. The BAMF Frame
The BAMF Half Nelson’s foundation is a lightweight 6061 aluminum creation with replaceable derailleur hanger, disc tabs and 1-1/8” integrated headset and water bottle mounts. The BAMF 26” MTB geometry is straight forward and solid. With four sizes to choose from BAMF has you covered. The 6061 aluminum is strong where it needs to be and light too while being dependable. The frame has a 27.2 seat post diameter and a 68mm English threaded bottom bracket. The head tube is designed to accept IS-2 standard threadless 1-1/8th bearings. This is the same frame found on the more expensive Full Nelson at a lower price. BAMF stands behind the aluminum frame with a lifetime limited warranty against manufacturing defects. The BAMF Fit
Sizing a BAMF MTB is no different, or more difficult, than any other style of bike. By reviewing the size chart you will see a measurement called the “Eff Top Tube”, also known as the Effective Top Tube Measurement. This is what the top tube would measure if it was parallel to the ground. It is an imaginary line the runs from the center of the head tube to the center of the seat tube, if the seat tube was extended like a traditional frame. The size chart also lists suggested heights for the different frame sizes. This is far more helpful in sizing a bike than standing over the top tube and pulling up on the handlebars (which tells you nothing about the fit of a bike). BAMF offers four sizes to accommodate riders large and small. It will be easy to find a fit for all of our customers. The +/- 7° stem can also be flipped and adjusted for a lower back-friendly position to a more streamline position in minutes. The lower top tube keeps the center of gravity low and the makes for an easy approach to getting on the bike. This BAMF bike was designed with the user’s needs and comfort as the #1 priority.

SUSPENSION

It isolates, cradles, and guards the FOX air shock while providing a smooth near-linear suspension ratio through the entire six inches of travel. This low and tight design gives the Mission a lower center of gravity than most all-mountain designs on the market today, resulting in the most balanced and maneuverable bike Diamondback has ever produced. The Knuckle Box is truly the “heart” of the design.

If the Knuckle Box is the heart, then the Mission’s front triangle is the backbone. The low-slung Hooded Hydroformed top tube wraps and reinforces the head tube and provides more stand over clearance. An uninterrupted seat tube that eliminates the need to cut seat posts also makes the Mission’s front triangle strong, light and stiff.

The Mission’s rear end features chain stays joined with a unique one-piece forged yoke that is very stiff. We are big fans of the Kuota K-Factor. It looks amazing and the ride is inspiring. Born as a triathlon bike the folks at Kuota are now offering this frame as a road bike build. This is a great opportunity to get a road bike that can later be used for triathlon (the fastest growing cycling related sport). This is just the bike to get you going on the road and even into tri.

For starters, tri bikes have slightly steeper seat tubes to place the rider further over the cranks than a road bike. This allows the rider to use the larger quad muscles over the smaller calf muscles. Tri bikes also take advantage of aero-shaped tubing to slice through the air with less resistance. Now take those attributes and apply them to a road bike format. What you get is a comfortable quick bike that likes to shoot down the road.

Tri frames in general have slightly shorter top tubes to put the pilot in a comfortable position when using aerobars. The difference in most cases is 1-1.5cm.  A proper fit is easily obtained by refrencing the size chart and the usual minor tweaks of saddle position and/or stem. The generous head tube size of the K-Factor allows this bike to be utilized in many different formats. Start with the road build and add an aero bar clip-on and you are set to go! If you decide that triathlon is for you then you can replace the road handlebar with a full blown tri bar and go all out.

Without getting too technical, it is easier to transform a tri bike into a road bike than a road bike into a tri bike. One of the key factors is the placement of the wheel under the rider. On a road bike geometry the rear wheel may be too far back and will alter the ride quality when the rider’s weight is placed on an aerobar extension. With too much weight coming off of the rear wheel the bike handling will become unbalanced and suffer. On a tri- geometry the wheel is tucked under the rider (thus the wheel cutout on the seat tube) and handling is not affected as much by utilizing road or tri bars.

Paired up with the carbon frame is Shimano’s Ultegra SL and 105 components. Every year Ultegra inherits the best qualities of the Dura-Ace group but the price is almost half of its big brother. For years Ultegra has been providing solid performance and dependability at a price to performance ratio that can’t be beat. Kuota matched up the 10 speed Shimano Ultegra SL shifters with the amazingly reliable Ultegra SL rear derailleur, Shimano 105 front derailleur and Shimano 10 speed cassette. The Patagonia Retro-X jacket recalls agrarian days o’ yore and has blended old-school style and modern nylon substantive warmth. A windproof layer has been squashed between a comfy polyester pile exterior and a moisture-managing brushed-mesh lining. So while the entire Retro-X looks as though it could have been excavated from the 17th century, its performance and construction plants it firmly in the early 21st.
